Cremation: crematoriums, ash, certificates and urns
Burning a corpse instead of burying it: the two crematoriums, what a burn gives, and the urns and columbaria its Ash builds.
A Crematorium in the Morgue burns a corpse instead of burying it. The burn runs on its own and pays the corpse's burial certificate, Ash and Salt. Ash goes into urns, and the urns into the graveyard's columbaria.

The certificate a corpse carries (Burial Certificate I, worth 1 silver, Burial Certificate II, worth 2 silver 50 bronze and Burial Certificate III, worth 5 silver) drops when the corpse is burned, as it does when it is buried.
Burning a corpse
- The burn
- A corpse loaded into a Crematorium burns on its own: 8 cells of 0:15 in Crematorium I, 5 in Crematorium II. The burn costs no energy and no insanity.
- What it gives
- Crematorium I: 5 Ash and 1 Salt. Crematorium II: 7 Ash and 2 Salt. Each burn also gives 1 red + 2 blue tech points and the Corpse Burner inspiration, and drops the corpse's burial certificate.
- Cremator
- The Cremator perk doubles the Ash and Salt: Crematorium I 10 Ash and 2 Salt and Crematorium II 14 Ash and 4 Salt.
- Ash
- The crematoriums make it and the Apothecary sells it. It is used in Ink (1), Urn with Ashes I (3) and Urn with Ashes II (3), and in alchemy it carries 1 green and 1 blue rune. Worth 10 bronze.

Cremation questions
Does cremating a corpse pay the same as burying it?
It pays the same burial certificate, and adds Ash, Salt and tech points. The corpse leaves no grave.
Where does Ash come from?
The crematoriums (5 per corpse in Crematorium I and 7 per corpse in Crematorium II), and the Apothecary sells it.
How many corpses fill a columbarium?
A columbarium takes 8 urns of 3 Ash, so 24 Ash: 5 corpses in Crematorium I (3 with Cremator) and 4 corpses in Crematorium II (2 with Cremator).
