Zombies: resurrection, collars, tools, limit and squads
The first two workers, resurrection on Envy, collars and red skulls, tools, the zombie limit and battle squads.
Zombies work stations and furnaces, run the factory's conveyor lines, supply other workers and fight in the Town's battles. The Plague Doctor gives the first two during Sweet Dreams, Gunter delivers more during Friendship Written in the Stars, and the rest are corpses resurrected in the Resurrection Lab.

Zombies craft the items queued at workbenches and furnaces, but only recipes that match their talent level. A zombie's talent rises with better tools and with talent points, which are bought with the Tech Points zombies earn while crafting.
From corpse to worker
- First zombies
- The Plague Doctor gives two zombie workers in Sweet Dreams, which asks for Dream Dust. Dream Dust is an alchemy powder the Alchemist also sells.
- Red skulls
- Each red skull on the corpse becomes one perk slot on the zombie. Removing organs at the autopsy table and embalming change a corpse's skulls.
- Resurrection Table
- Takes the corpse, Reanimation Liquid, Faith and a Zombie Collar. The collar caps the corpse's red skulls: Bronze Zombie Collar up to 5, Golden Zombie Collar up to 10, Steel Zombie Collar any number.
- Power
- The Resurrection Lab is powered on Envy, and the Resurrection Device works then. A successful Prayer for Storms grants God of the storms, which allows resurrection on any day while it lasts.
- Work
- Zombie suppliers deliver the needed items to workstation zombies and load workbenches for auto-crafting. Zombies work automatically once a Zombie Supply Station in the area has a Zombie Supplier assigned.
Collars, tools, limits and squads
A collar sets the most red skulls the corpse on the table can have. The Jewelry Table makes all three from an ingot, a Blue Crystal from the Goddess of Nature and Faith. The Jeweler sells the Bronze collar from Tier I, the Golden collar from Tier II and the Steel collar at Tier III.

Bronze Zombie Collar
Corpses with up to 5 red skulls - Jewelry Table: 1 Bronze Ingot, 1 Blue Crystal and 3 Faith - worth 1 silver

Golden Zombie Collar
Corpses with up to 10 red skulls - Jewelry Table: 1 Golden ingot, 1 Blue Crystal and 5 Faith - worth 10 silver

Steel Zombie Collar
Corpses with any number of red skulls - Jewelry Table: 1 Steel Ingot, 1 Blue Crystal and 10 Faith - worth 90 silver
Reanimation Liquid is the other consumable: Gunter and the Alchemist sell it (worth 7 silver), and it is made from 1 Alcohol and 1 Catalyst.
A zombie has the same five masteries as the Keeper. Its level decides which recipes it can follow, and a tool in its hands raises the matching mastery. Zombies also earn their own tech points while they craft, which unlock their talents and perks.

The number of zombies is capped by the zombie limit. Going over it gives the Excessive zombies debuff until the count is back under the limit.
- Excessive zombies
- You have too many zombies, and it's creeping people out. Your sermons are less effective.
- PR Machine
- Takes a load on Gluttony and raises the limit for the number of weeks its program lasts.
What each PR Machine program adds to the zombie limit, for how long, and what it takes.
| Limit | Lasts | Load | Needs at least |
|---|---|---|---|
| +10 | 1 week | 2 Charged hypno-device | PR Machine I |
| +20 | 2 weeks | 10 Newspaper (any grade) and 3 Charged hypno-device | PR Machine II |
| +30 | 3 weeks | 20 Newspaper (silver or gold) and 5 Charged hypno-device | PR Machine III |
| +50 | 4 weeks | 100 Newspaper (silver or gold) | PR Machine IV |
| +80 | 5 weeks | 100 Newspaper (gold) | PR Machine V |
Upgrading the PR Machine unlocks the longer programs.
| Upgrade | Materials |
|---|---|
| Upgrade PR Machine I | 10 Oiled Plank and 8 Iron Detail |
| Upgrade PR Machine II | 6 Wooden beam and 8 Advanced Detail |
| Upgrade PR Machine III | 6 Wooden Joint and 8 Steel Detail |
| Upgrade PR Machine IV | 10 Carved Wood and 8 Engineering Details |
Factory workstations need zombies to work and must be linked by conveyor belts. Factory power limits the Factory's capacity, and each Carousel in operation raises it.
These stations take no ingredients and produce while a zombie works them: Zombie Stone Quarry: 1 Stone; Zombie Marble Quarry: 1 Marble; Zombie Miner: 1 Iron Ore and 2 Coal (10% chance of a Gem with the Magpie’s Eye zombie perk); Lumberjack stand: 1 Log and 2 Stick.
Squad Slots are unlocked through Battle Ram in the Barracks, and a squad is formed from zombies placed in a Squad Slot there. Zombies only fight when equipped with armor and a pike or bow, and better equipment gives a higher squad power.
Zombies have 56 perks of their own. Every red skull the zombie was raised with opens one perk slot, and the Tech Points it earns at work buy them.
Zombie questions
What does a zombie need to work?
A mastery at or above the recipe's requirement (a tool for that mastery raises it), materials brought by a supplier from a Zombie Supply Station in the area, and, in the factory, conveyor belts linking its station to the others.
What limits the number of zombies?
The zombie limit. Over the limit, the Excessive zombies debuff makes every sermon pay less Faith and fewer coins. A PR Machine load on Gluttony raises the limit for 1 to 5 weeks.
How do a corpse's skulls affect the zombie?
Each red skull on the corpse opens one perk slot on the zombie, and the collar on the Resurrection Table must cover the corpse's red skulls.
What is the Personal Zombie Zone quest asking for?
Albert wants a zombie raised from a corpse with 8 red skulls. The quest hands over two Golden collars and two Reanimation Liquids for it; a Bronze Zombie Collar stops at 5 red skulls.
