Crafting

Crafting in Graveyard Keeper 2

How a craft works, what mastery does, and every station sorted by the mastery it uses.

Graveyard Keeper 2 has 85 crafting stations - workbenches, furnaces, tables, factory benches and beds - with 425 recipes between them. A recipe needs its ingredients, a station and enough mastery, and 355 of them also need a technology. Every tick of work costs energy, 411 recipes pay tech points when finished, and two or three times the required mastery cuts the ticks to a half or a third.

Twice the mastery, half the ticks

Each tick adds the crafter's mastery divided by the recipe's required mastery, rounded down and capped at 3. A recipe that needs mastery 3 moves 1 step per tick at mastery 3 to 5, 2 steps at 6 to 8 and 3 steps from 9. Fewer ticks also means less energy, because energy is paid per tick.

How a craft works

Ticks and energy

Every recipe has a length in ticks. Each tick worked costs the recipe's energy per tick, so the energy for a whole craft is the energy per tick times the ticks actually spent.

Required mastery

Every station except the Beehive uses one of the five masteries: Building, Smithing, Farming, Book writing or Anatomy. A recipe lists the mastery level it needs. Below that level a normal recipe cannot be worked at all ("Not enough mastery"). At or above it, each tick adds the crafter's mastery divided by the required level, rounded down and capped at 3, to the progress bar.

Star crafts and quality

Star crafts (prayers, stories, newspapers, embalming solutions and injections, planting seeds and two dishes, Vegetable salad and Bowl of sauerkraut) and autopsy work can be started below the required mastery. Each tick then succeeds with a chance that grows with the crafter's mastery against the requirement; a failed tick still uses up a tick of the craft. The result's quality depends on how many ticks succeeded: the recipe card lists how many successful ticks give silver and gold.

Tech points

Finished crafts pay out red, green or blue tech points, shown on every recipe card. Tech points buy technologies, and technologies unlock 355 of the 425 recipes and 176 of the 207 buildings. The tech points page lists every other source.

Extensions

Advanced recipes need an extension built next to the station: a Tool Rack or Fine Tool Rack beside the woodworking and stonemason benches, a Hardening Bucket beside the anvils, Bellows or a Casting Table beside the furnaces. Without it those recipes cannot be crafted; each station page lists which recipes need which extension.

Stations that work on their own

Furnaces, kilns, ovens, the distillation cube, barrels and the compost pile craft over time once a recipe is started. Fuel burners: Kiln, Furnace, Kitchen Oven and Distillation Cube; Fuel is an ingredient on their recipes, and a Firewood shed next to them turns every 2 Firewood into 20 Fuel.

Zombies and the factory

Zombies can be put to work at 47 of the 85 stations and only take recipes that match their own mastery. Factory benches (Assembly benches, Smithies, Kitchens) need a zombie to work and must be linked by conveyor belts; they make supplies and kits. The zombies page covers zombie workers in full.

Crafting questions

Where does mastery come from?

Talents and perks (listed on the talents page), tools and temporary buffs. Because progress per tick is mastery divided by the requirement, the same recipe gets faster as mastery rises, up to 3 steps per tick.

Why does the same recipe show different amounts?

Some perks change a recipe: Blacksmith adds nails, Cook adds dishes, Heat Saver cuts the Fuel a recipe burns. Recipe cards show the base amount first and the perk amount in brackets.

Is there a limit on the number of stations?

Only the graveyard areas have a limit, at most 2 of each. Upgrades such as Kitchen Oven II replace the station they improve rather than adding a second one.
